Report by Alison Davidson (Show Secretary)

Once again RDTC hosted the Crufts Heelwork to Music Semi Finals at its Annual show held at The Kennel Club Building Stoneleigh on Saturday 28th January 2012

Doors opened at 7.30am and the hall soon came to life as the competitors and spectators started to arrive.

The first class was Advanced Heelwork to Music and got the show off to a good start.

This was followed by the Intermediate level and the Crufts Semi Final, in the Heelwork category the first 10 will be competing at Crufts this was a great way to end the morning.

After a short lunch break and some excellent refreshments, the judges took their seats for the Advanced Freestyle class, which had a good variety of routines to watch.

The Crufts Semi Final Freestyle showed us some entertaining routines , the 10 who qualified can be seen performing these routines at Crufts in March.

The smooth running of the show was made possible by Rugby Dog Training Club members and helpers from various Heelwork to Music clubs who gave up their time to help throughout the day.

Many thanks to you all.

Congratulations and Good Luck to the qualifiers results for the show are printed on this website

Crufts 2012 Inter-Regional Judge – Anita Neal (RDTC Member).

I was born in West Bromwich, West Midlands but now live in a village near Milton Keynes.

I have been in obedience for 30 years. For the first two years I did caller stewarding for various judges and fell in love with the sport so much that in 1984 I went and bought my first competitive dog, a Working Sheepdog from a farm in Oswestry and named him Ozzy (Oswald Megan’s Pride). Me and Ozzy worked our way from Beginners to Championship C winning our first CC in 1991 and qualifying us for the Crufts 1992 Obedience Dog Championships.

I have qualified my dogs for the Crufts Obedience Championships on 11 occasions with 3 different dogs. I have been judging for 20 years and awarded my first Obedience Championship Certificate in 2001. I have also judged in Guernsey, Holland & Belgium.

I feel very privileged and honoured to be judging the Crufts 2012 Inter-Regional competition and hope that I can relax enough to have an enjoyable and memorable day

Xmas Party

There was a good turn out for the Clubs Annual Xmas Party.

Jenny Deacon kept everyone busy with a number of games, including the popular fancy dress competition and the enormously popular (with the dogs) sausage race.

Jan Stonehouse and Daphne Townsend did an excellent job on the catering - also a big thanks to all you who brought food for the party.

Finally thanks to all of you for coming on such a cold night.

Sorry there are only one photograph but my camera lens jammed – if anyone has any photos of the party – please send them to me - Thanks

Yet again another big star visits Club Barn.

Following the recent visit by Ant & Dec - Will Young is the latest big name to visit the Club Barn.

Will came to rehearse doggy dancing with Mary Ray and Levi for his video for his latest song 'Come On', based around Crufts Classes .

It is reported from the rehearsals both at the Club Barn and the Studio's in London that Will was a very good pupil and learnt rapidly from Mary and got on well with Levi.

For anyone interested in seeing a a video of Will performing 'Come On' with Levi it currently can be found on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgd-b8X3meA.

Heelwork To Music Inter Regional Competition August 29th 2011

Paws n Music hosted the first ever Heelwork to Music Inter Regional Competition at the Kennel Club Building on August 29th.

Alison Davidson was asked to be the Midlands Team Leader in March 2011 and along with Jenny Deakin as the Inter Regional Event co-ordinator Rugby DTC members were to play a full-on part in the Midlands Team..

There are seven regions represented in the competition: North, South, East, West, Midlands, Scotland and Wales. The event covered four divisions: Dressage, Heelwork to Music, Dances with Dogs and Freestyle..

The Dressage and Dances with Dogs divisions are Paws n Music unofficial KC classes but luckily Jenny teaches the elements to go into the classes in her classes so the Team was looking promising..

The competition was also for all levels of classes: Starters, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced dogs, one handler per division therefore potentially 16 team members. Plus there were restrictions on the number of Border Collies/WSDs (2 per division) that could be in the divisional teams..

Alison had her organisation skills challenged! .

Alison put on a number of pre-event Team events and along with some fun raising at Rugby’s first Fun show in August the team was selected and further practice by the team took place..

Rugby sponsored the Midland Team’s polo shirts so they looked extra smart with “Midlands Team” embroidered on their backs.

Well done to all Team members!!!!

Results

The Midlands Team came 3rd in Top Region.

Divisional awards: 2nd in Top Dressage Team, 2nd in Top Dances with Dogs Team, 2nd in Top Freestyle Team.

Class awards: 5th in Top Starters, 3rd in Top Novice, 4th in Top Intermediate and 2nd in Top Advanced.

On the day there was a fantastic atmosphere, plenty of cheering and a brilliant time had by all.

For 2012:

Alison has been asked to be Team leader, which she has accepted – well done Alison. Jenny Deakin shall be co-ordinating, running and deputising with Alison.

Good Luck to the Midlands Team for 2012

HTM Fun Show 7th August 2011

The Club ran its first HTM fun show last Sunday (6th August) this was not a competitive show but one in which those interested in competing in HTM could practice their skills in a non-competitive environment.

The show was well attended - in fact competitors were so keen that there was a considerable entry in the last class the Pay On The Day Class.

The laid back nature of the show was reflected during the lunch break where competitors took place in a sausage retrieving competition.

Thanks Jenny and all your Helpers for putting on a relaxed friendly show.
